Hair Fitness - for longer, stronger and healthier hair

Strong as Steel . . . Soft as Silk

Hair Fitness® Nutritional Supplement

Hair Fitness® Nutritional Supplement is synergistically formulated and contains Vitamins A through F together with the highest quality chelated minerals and includes U.S.-patented OptiZinc® and ChromeMate® as superior bioavailable Zinc and Chromium sources. Hair Fitness® also features a rich blend of nutrifying herbs and essential fatty acids that help to restore luster and sheen to your hair. In fact, Hair Fitness® contains many ingredients our bodies cannot produce alone. These are called essential nutrients, and they also provide the nourishment we need for thick, silky, young-looking hair.

Nonessential nutrient reserves can also become essential as body reserves are used up under stress, illness, exercise, smoking, medications, drugs, alcohol, dietary calorie restriction and bad diets, etc. Hair Fitness® also contains many antioxidants which unite with unpaired electrons called free radicals. Free radicals occur in the course of normal metabolism by uncontrolled reactions to oils, fats and oxygen. The antioxidants in Hair Fitness® include Beta Carotene, Vitamins B-1, B-5, B-6, Rose Hips Vitamin C, Vitamin E, L-Cysteine and the minerals Selenium and Zinc. These nutrients block oxidation reactions that produce free radicals.

Hair is constructed of a chain of polypeptides. These bonds are called peptide bonds, and when these bonds break, hair has been damaged. One of these main hair bonds is an amino acid called L-Cysteine which makes up nearly 18% of your hair. These bonds are reduced or damaged by chemicals, heat, perms, braids, diet, etc. L-Cysteine is a major component in eggs which many people avoid due to cholesterol. Hair Fitness provides 500 mg. of L-Cysteine without the cholesterol!

1250 mg. of Rose Hips Vitamin C is also provided to balance the Cysteine. Cysteine provides the integrity to hair structure that adds not only strength but gloss and shine as well. If borderline amounts of Cysteine are present in the body, it is delivered to areas of top priority such as the pancreas to produce insulin which may deplete available stores and leave insufficient or nonexistent amounts to help regenerate hair keratin.

Hair Fitness® Sulfate-free Nutrient Shampoo and Conditioner are rich with body-building nutrients that match the amino acid profile, or protein structure, of hair. These aminos are positively charged which means they are attracted to and penetrate deep into the hair shaft whereas animal protein or typical keratin ingredients are negatively charged and repelled by the hair.

Also, Cationic Panthenol, or positively-charged Vitamin B-5, is absorbed into the hair adding strength and flexibility to the keratin cables of protein. Other ingredients that are beneficial for rebuilding the structural integrity of the hair include L-Cysteine, Silica, Biotin, Kelp, Selenium, Oatstraw, Coltsfoot, Horsetail, Alfalfa, Saw Palmetto, Evening Primrose Oil, Lecithin, Beta Carotene, Essential Fatty Acids and more. Whole wheat protein in large and small molecular weights moisturize the hair and seal in protective nutrients.

The low pH formula tightens the hair cuticle to reflect natural highlights, brightens color and strengthens hair bonds. The Hair Fitness Shampoo and Conditioner have a tropical fragrance that is soothing, refreshing and unforgettable. You may recognize many of the ingredients from the Hair Fitness® Nutritional Supplement. The primary concern is for the health of your scalp and hair. Therefore, these products are formulated with a natural, nutritional profile that complements your health and hair.

Hair Fitness® Nutrient Shampoo and Conditioner are friendly to animals and have No Animal Ingredients or testing, friendly to people and to the earth with natural nourishing formulas and recyclable packaging. The Hair Fitness® Nutritional Supplement is also COMPLETELY VEGETARIAN and contains NO sugar, salt, yeast, artificial flavoring or coloring.

Technical Information

L-CYSTEINE - Amino acid peptide bond constructing up to 18% of your hair that provides strength, shine and structure. Cysteine increases hair shaft diameter and hair growth density.  Foods high in Cysteine include eggs, muscle protein, garlic, onions, Brussells sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, beans and milk.   At least 500 mg. of this keratin-forming amino acid must be taken each day to even have an effect on hair.  Cysteine is a powerful cell defender that acts as an antioxidant and also contains sulfur, known as nature's beauty mineral.  A deficiency in sulfur is characterized by atrophied sebaceous glands which lubricate the scalp from the Essential Fatty Acids. Vitamin C in two and one-half times the amount of Cysteine, Vitamin B-6, and co-action of all 22 amino acids provide optimum use of L-Cysteine. In order for Cysteine to be effective it must synergistically work with ALL other aminos. A missing amino acid is like a missing building block that collapses the entire structure.

L-METHIONINE - It is an essential sulfur peptide bond which means we cannot manufacture it, and it must be supplied by the diet.  Methionine helps to grow and repair hair and in fact  converts to L-Cysteine.

SILICA - This mineral, derived from the Springtime Horsetail Herb (Equisetum Arvense), improves strength, elasticity and circulation to hair.  Silica translates to collagen by the body and is found in hair, muscles and nails. It keeps the body firm and filled with vitality.  Foods high in silica are grains, buckwheat, oats, lentils, dandelions, tomatoes, kelp, oatstraw, alfalfa and kelp.

SAW PALMETTO - This herb helps to eliminate dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which contributes to loss of hair, body tone and urinary / prostate / sexual function. DHT forms from testosterone and its elevation at approximately 25 years of age for men begins in response to low zinc levels which stimulate an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. This process in turn stimulates prolactin levels (female hormone) and body tone, including the chest, begins to soften to breasts as DHT levels rise more. In response to DHT, the galea, or membrane from the forehead to the crown thickens as well, restricting circulation to the scalp and to the follicle, producing the familiar Male Pattern Baldness scenario. Therefore, anything applied topically to the scalp may address the external follicle, but this is only treating the symptom and not the cause, which is internal from DHT.  Hair loss can be delayed or prevented if steps are taken before complete hair loss occurs.

INOSITOL - Inositol works with Vitamin B-6 to feed the fatty layer under the skin and scalp. It regulates oil flow, maintains healthy cell structure and prevents thinning or falling hair. Usually it is found with choline in the form of lecithin which is important for proper fat metabolism.

CHOLINE - This B vitamin is a methyl donor and acts as an antioxidant. It strengthens capillary walls and works with B-12, Folic Acid and Methionine. Choline is usually found with Inositol in the form of Lecithin.

FOLIC ACID - Prevention of gray hair is attributed to Folic Acid along with PABA, Pantothenic Acid and the mineral Copper which converts L-Tyrosine that gives color to the hair. Folic Acid is named because of its occurrence in green foliage and is also found in avocados, pumpkins, whole wheat, goat's milk and cantaloupe. Folic Acid is also essential in the metabolism of the nucleic acids RNA and DNA which play a key role in protein synthesis and increases oxygen carrying red blood cells.

BIOTIN - Also referred to as Vitamin H, this vitamin promotes hair growth, protects against dryness and is involved in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fats. An extreme lack of Biotin is usually associated with eating raw egg whites which contain a protein, avidin, which binds to Biotin and prevents its absorption. A lack of Biotin would result in dermatitis and hair loss.

PABA - It is unique in that it is a vitamin within a vitamin. It appears that PABA is a part of Folic Acid which explains why a lack of PABA and Folic Acid are both associated with graying and white hair.

VITAMIN B-1 - Vitamins B-1, B-2 and B-3 are energy producers. Vitamin B-1 contains the mineral sulfur, the integral element of hair that gives it gloss and sheen.

VITAMIN B-2 - This vitamin is essential for body cell respiration and to ensure efficient utilization of oxygen for cell production and repair. If your eyes are sensitive to light, you may be deficient in B-2, or Riboflavin, present in milk. Unhealthy scalp and hair loss have been traced to B-2 deficiencies.

VITAMIN B-3 - Also referred to as Niacin and has a dilating effect on vessels and capillaries thereby increasing circulation to the scalp and stimulating hair growth. This only occurs if B-3 is taken as Niacin, and not as Niacinimide, which has no vasodilatory effect.

VITAMIN B-5 - Also referred to as Pantothenic Acid, this vitamin restores color brightness to hair and works with Folic Acid, PABA, Copper and the amino acid Tyrosine in the prevention of gray and white hair.

VITAMIN B-6 - Pyridoxine HCl, or B-6, is responsible for balance of protein intake, especially Cysteine, and helps to transport amino acids to the proper tissues. It is also needed in the conversion of one amino acid to another such as the conversion of Methionine to Cysteine. It is also a factor in the metabolism of Essential Fatty Acids for healthy skin and hair. It works with Inositol to regulate the flow of oils to the skin and scalp. Vitamins B-1, B-2 and B-6 should be taken in equal dosages for proper balance.

VITAMIN B-12 - This vitamin builds rich blood and helps to regenerate red blood cells which are vital for healthy hair. B-12 is found in beef liver, Brewer's Yeast, milk, cheese, wheat germ and some algae such as spirulina and chlorella.

VITAMIN A - Vitamin A is important for lubrication to the hair and scalp.  Beta Carotene is a water-soluble form and is recommended because too much fat-soluble Vitamin A can create the same symptoms as too little. When nutrients are water-soluble, excess amounts are thrown off;  fat-soluble nutrients can accumulate in our bodies and produce toxic reactions.

VITAMIN C - More than twice the amount of Vitamin C  is required to keep the amino acid L-Cysteine in its soluble form and not to oxidize to Cystine.  Rose Hips also contains Essential Fatty Acids that are excellent for hair.  Vitamin C is water-soluble and is not stored in our body, so we must get a fresh supply every day of our lives.

VITAMIN E - Vitamin E increases blood flow to skin surfaces.  It retards cellular aging and the formulation of free radicals due to oxidation and the environment.  It increases cell oxygenation and has a protective action of Essential Fatty Acids and on Vitamin A.  Vitamin E is found in unrefined vegetable oils, wheat germ, whole grain breads, cereals and raw nuts.

VITAMIN F - Also referred to as Essential Fatty Acids, they are essential because they cannot be produced by the body but must be supplied in the diet.  Without the EFAs, hair becomes dry, withered, dull and brittle, causing slow growth.  The condition of the sebaceous glands depends on an oily secretion, sebum, which lubricates the scalp and hair.  EFAs are present in all unsaturated vegetable oils (cold or expeller pressed), in raw nuts, seeds, wheat germ, soybeans and eggs.

VITAMIN D - The "sunshine vitamin" aids in the absorption of calcium. UV sunrays act on oils of the skin to produce Vitamin D which is then absorbed into the body.  Vitamin D is needed for assimilation of all minerals.  It is present in fish liver oils and is fortified in milk.  Vitamin D belongs to a class of substances known as Sterols which are precursors to many important hormones.

COPPER - This mineral renders the amino acid L-Tyrosine usable, allowing it to work as the pigmenting factor for hair and skin. Copper is found in high amounts in oysters, seafood, green leafy vegetables, liver, whole grains, eggs, sesame seeds and Brazil nuts.

ZINC - Zinc helps to absorb other minerals.  In men, zinc requires Vitamin B-6 to produce Zinc Picolinate and to decrease prolactin (a female hormone) levels in men's bodies.   Without zinc, DHT levels elevate and contribute to loss of hair, muscle tone and prostate function.  Zinc is plentiful in shellfish such as oysters.

SELENIUM - This mineral works as an effective antioxidant to protect cells and keeps elasticity to the hair. Men are likely to lack sufficient selenium as it is lost in ejaculation.  High fat intake and stress deplete Selenium.  Foods high in Selenium are Brewer's Yeast, garlic, broccoli, onions, liver, brown rice, whole grains, mushrooms, eggs and tuna fish.

KELP - A lack of this very important mineral causes dry skin and brittle, thinning hair.  Kelp contains Iodine which feeds the thyroid that controls the metabolism.

CHROMIUM - This mineral maintains normal blood vessel function and transports protein to its needed location in the body.  It also stimulates synthesis of the Essential Fatty Acids.

MANGANESE - The mineral Manganese works closely with the B-Complex vitamins and is an activator of enzymes that are necessary for utilization of Biotin, Thiamine and Vitamin C.  Manganese is also a catalyst in the synthesis of the Essential Fatty Acids.  Manganese is found in whole grains, egg yolks, raw seeds, nuts and green vegetables.

CALCIUM - This is an essential mineral to the blood and must be accompanied by half the magnesium and by Vitamin A, C, E, F and Vitamin D.  Calcium is necessary for the parathyroid glands, which are important in hair growth.  Foods high in calcium are milk, yogurt, cheese, sea kelp and dark green leafy vegetables.

MAGNESIUM - This mineral activates a variety of enzymes necessary for the metabolism of amino acids.  A magnesium deficiency manifests itself as restricted blood vessel activity that affects the scalp where circulation is difficult to maintain.  Magnesium is found in eggs, milk, celery, cucumbers, whole grains and citrus fruits.
